KDH DEFENSE SYSTEMS INC. WINS AGAIN

03.08.2010

The U.S. Army has awarded KDH Defense Systems Inc. (www.kdhdefensesystems.com) the contract for 150,000 Improved Outer Tactical Vests (IOTVs). The selection was based on competitive pricing and on-time delivery—both of which KDH has mastered.

The order will be manufactured over a six-month period. Simultaneously, KDH will compete again for the second 150,000 order.

KDH has won three contracts to produce the Improved Modular Tactical Vest (IMTV) and the USMC Plate Carrier System (PCS) for the US Marine Corps (USMC). Production on this contract will commence when the USMC concludes a Field User Evaluation (FUE)test of these products. Additionally, KDH recently completed producing 57,000 Soldier Plate Carrier Systems (SPCS) for the US Army using a KDH Design which was selected after extensive testing by the Government. The KDH SPCS was cited for having the best design (the lightest weight system, the most comfortable, and providing the best ballistic protection over the competition). KDH also produced 65,000 IOTVs for the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DSCP). These IOTVs will go to Soldiers and U.S. Air Force personnel deploying to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

KDH Defense Systems Inc. is a solid company relied upon by the U.S. Military and U.S. Federal agencies to provide top quality, technologically superior, life-saving protective products.

KDH Wins Major U.S. Army IOTV Award

08.14.2009

JOHNSTOWN, PA, August 14, 2009 -- KDH Defense Systems, Inc., a leading supplierof protective body armor to the U.S. Department of Defense announced today that, after over a year of fierce competition and a rigorous selection process, it has been awarded a contract to supply the U.S. Army with the very latest in body armor technology, the Improved Outer Tactical Vest (IOTV) (Contract W91CRB-09-D0049).

This five-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract from the U.S. Army REDCOM Acquisition Center, requires the production and delivery of up to 736,000 Improved Outer Tactical Vests and 253,000 Deltoid and Axillary Protection Systems ("DAPS"). Notice of this award came just days after KDH had begun first article production for its firm fixed price contract to supply the Defense Logistics Agency with 65,000 IOTVs.

The news of both IOTV awards took the industry by surprise as KDH, a federally recognized small business, unseated body armor companies more than twice its size, who have dominated the federal body armor market since the initiation of the Global War on Terror. “It was a bit unexpected, but we have been planning and positioning ourselves for some time,” said Dave Herbener, President and CEO of KDH Defense Systems, Inc. “We have been patiently watching market trends, gaining relevant experience with smaller scale contracts, and improving the efficiency in our process in order to provide quality and best value to the government. We have concentrated efforts to lower the cost and improve the performance of our soft ballistic packages in order to provide quality systems, on time, and at a fair and reasonable price.” In June, KDH was awarded a sub -contract with the Industries of the Blind, Inc. in support of the U.S. Army’s Universal NAPE Pad procurement based on exceptional ballistic performance.

“KDH is truly honored the U.S. Army has recognized our commitment to best value and dedication to our Soldiers through this IOTV award. To have emerged as a winner from this highly scrutinized award process displays a confidence in our ability for which we have worked tirelessly and have been patiently awaiting” concluded Mr. Herbener.

The Improved Outer Tactical Vest is the U.S. Army’s latest body armor system designed to reduce weight and provide the Soldier with better body armor coverage. Some of the improvements in design over the IOTV’s predecessor, the Outer Tactical Vest ("OTV"), include increased coverage, lighter weight, a quick-release system and an overall improved fit and load carriage.

KDH wins $6 Million Nape Pad Insert Contract and Opens New North Carolina Facility

06.26.2009

Eden, NC KDH Defense Systems, Inc., a leading body armor manufacturer for the Department of Defense, announced today the award of a sub-contract with the Industries of the Blind, Inc. in support of the U.S. Army’s Universal Nape Pad procurement. KDH Defense Systems will produce 520,000 Nape Pad Inserts for the Industries of the Blind over the next 12 months.

In March of 2007, the U.S. Army announced its plan to field Universal Nape Pads intended to better protect the Soldier’s neck area from ballistic fragmentation. The pad easily attaches to the existing rear strap of the Army Combat Helmet (ACH) and further complements the Army’s “systems-of-systems” approach to force protection. KDH Defense Systems was awarded this ballistic insert sub-contract, to complete the Army’s follow-on acquisition objective of the Nape Pad, as a result of its superior ballistic performance during initial testing.

KDH Defense Systems plans to perform a portion of the Nape Pad contract at its new state-of-the-art facility in Eden, North Carolina, located in Rockingham County, a Qualified HUBZone Region. “The increased manufacturing square footage, access to skilled textile workers, and the factory’s new compliment of automated equipment will enable us to deliver ahead of schedule and position us well for the award of pending future contracts, “ said Dave Herbener, President & CEO of KDH Defense Systems. KDH Defense System’s Soldier Plate Carrier System (SPCS) design was recently down-selected as one of four finalists in the latest phase of competition to supply the U.S. Army with light-weight plate carriers. The Army has announced its plan to potentially field up to 100,000 plate carriers in order to provide Soldiers in Afghanistan with greater mobility, improved cooling capability, and a reduction to the combat load.

Established in 2003, KDH Defense Systems, Inc. is a Qualified HUBZone Small Business Concern with a manufacturing facility and corporate offices located in Johnstown, PA. Since 2004, KDH Defense Systems has been the leading supplier to the U.S. Navy of mission specific maritime and releasable body armor.
